Vaginal cancer

I have had stage 3 vaginal cancer with reconstruction and I’m 3 years post diagnosis

I need more information on the long term affects of this type of surgery etc

I have neuropathic pain at the surgery site but don’t know much about long term issues of what I’ve had

many thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to be very specific, as we haven't been directly involved in your past clinical care.

Long term issues from surgery can include some temporary or more permanent nerve damage, and the formation of scar tissue. This means that some areas of tissue may feel tighter and thicker over time, as scar tissue can be more fibrous. Sometimes, the glands that aid lubrication of the vagina itself can be affected and there can be some vaginal dryness. Your medical notes should include a summary of your surgery. If you are no longer being seen at your hospital, then maybe your GP could elaborate more after reading your notes, as to what effects this surgery had for you.

Sometimes joining an online forum can be useful, if someone in a similar situation share their experiences. You would need to post in the general section, not the ask the nurses section, for other users to see your post.

    I hope that this helps,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
