Awaiting blood/ x ray results

Hi. Wondering if anyone can advise. My anxiety is through the roof. I’m worried about results. I’ve been unwell for a while and finally plucked up courage to go to docs. I have had bloods taken and a chest x ray. They say up to 2 weeks for results. If there was something obvious would I be likely to be contacted fairly quickly or could it still take the 2 weeks? I’m barely sleeping as it is!

  • Hello lauren2104 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you aren't feeling too well and have recently been for some tests.

It can be unnerving waiting for results so try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can to help you through this time.

Sometimes results can come through quicker than expected but if you have been told 2 weeks that is probably a good gage of when you will hear something, regardless of the results.

I hope you have some people around you to support you at this time. It can be stressful waiting and not knowing and talking this through with people can be helpful.

There is information and coping strategies about how to manage anxiety on MIND's website here so do have a look. Making sure you are looking after yourself by eating well, getting some exercise and sleeping well can all help.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi

  • Thank you for the reply. I got a call today that chest x ray seems ok as do bloods apart from deficient in folate. This is obv good news but gives me no answers. I also have a lump behind my ear. At no point has anyone checked my lymph nodes. I don’t know where to go from here.

  • Hello Lauren 2104 and thanks for updating us

It is good news to hear that the tests you have had done have come back okay.

If anyone remains worried about their symptoms or have noticed any other changes (such as the lump) they should arrange another appointment with their GP so they can re assess the situation. If needed they can arrange further tests.

Lumps are common and swollen lymph nodes are often the result of a current or recent infection. These usually settle with time and most of the time aren't anything to worry about.

I hope you can get some peace of mind soon

    Take care

    Naomi
