Body weakness

Hello,

I’ve been experiencing weakness in my arms and legs now for around 2 weeks it seemed to of come from nowhere, it is not yet severe and I can still walk and do my usual daily activities but when I’m resting my body feels weak, my lower back also hurts I’m just worried it’s something sinister and I won’t be able to walk again.. ( I do have bad health anxiety so I’m sorry if I sound insensitive or silly)

has anyone else experienced this I am seeking medical help from my doctor but my appointment isn’t for a week!

thank you

  • Hello Roro and thanks for your post

I'm sorry about everything that has been happening and can understand that not knowing what is going on can be worrying.

People often post here on Cancer Chat to ask if anyone else has had similar symptoms, but even if they have, it doesn't necessarily shed any light on what may be the matter with you.

Symptoms can have many different causes and most won't be anything as serious as cancer.

It is only natural to be looking for answers, but really only a doctor can assess you and decide what is and isn't wrong. So, it's good that you've made an appointment to see your GP. Making a diagnosis isn't necessarily straightforward, it can be a process of elimination and sometimes doctors want to see how someone goes for a while. This is because lots of symptoms sort themselves out without the need for any further tests.

Anxiety can be a factor as it can cause its own symptoms, but it is important to get checked out physically before accepting that anxiety may be the main issue. Even so it can help to try and de-stress as much as you can. You could take a look at the NHS Every Mind Matters website which has some tips on coping with anxious thoughts that you may find useful.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
