PSA result from blood test

Hello

I had a blood test two weeks ago and the results from the GP show  a PSA  result of .0819 (point zero eight one nine) Does this make sense as I usually have a result of between 1 and 2?

Regards

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I would chat to your GP about your PSA results.

It is difficult for us to comment about your result as we do not know your past medical history.

The PSA test is a blood test that measures the amount of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in your blood. PSA is a protein produced by normal cells in the prostate and also by prostate cancer cells. It is normal to have a small amount of PSA in your blood, and the amount rises slightly as you get older and your prostate gets bigger.

If you haven't had surgery to your prostate then I am not sure about the cause of your low levels so do ask your GP what they think it means. Your GP may decide to repeat the test.

If you would like to chat any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are welcome to give us a ring.

Our number is freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm

    Best wishes,

    Catherine
