Lump on rib just under boob

Hi I’ve recently found a lump on my rib just under my boob, it’s quite large and not painful and moves about, I’ve been to the doctors and they are referring me for an ultrasound. However I’ve since found a smaller one next to it and one on my rib on the other side - do lipomas grow in multiples? or does cancer grow in multiples? I’m really worried and can’t stop panicking that I have cancer.
im 20 and have a 1 year old baby boy , I’m so worried

  • Hello Emilouise 2104 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you have some lumps on your chest and appreciate this must be a worry for you.

Lumps and bumps can be caused by lots of different things and in most cases won't be the result of cancer but it is best to get them checked out just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately no one here can tell you what these lumps are and it will only be the ultrasound that gives further information about these. Whilst you are waiting for your appointment I would let your GP know you have noticed more just so they are aware and if you notice any other changes let them know.

Try not to worry or over think things (or google) for now until you have had the ultrasound which will give far more information and decide if more tests are needed.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
