Ovarian cancer

How frightened I am,

I had cervical cancer when I was 38yrs old and had womb and cervic removed, leaving the ovaries in place. I had radium treatment which stopped my ovaries working. Causing bad menopausal symptoms,  eventually put on hrt patches. Which I’ve now been told can feed the cancer.

im waiting surgery on 31st Jan, the radium treatment caused my bowel to adhere to the ovary, so if the can’t remove it I may end up with a colostomy bag .

im so tired at present my diet is poor as my appetite is not good, I have a little job in a school lunchtimes but this week I’ve had to stay home. I’m cross with myself for being lazy but I’ve lost all my get up and go.
sorry for moaning to you, I know there’s worse off than me. It’s just the not knowing what they may find.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am very sorry to hear about your situation. This must be a difficult time for you.

Please do not be so hard on yourself. You are going through a tough time and waiting for the surgery to be done and what will be found must be such a worry for you.

We will all react differently to difficult times and there is no wrong or right way to respond so not feeling energetic is very understandable. I hope you have some support at this time.

I can appreciate that eating may be a problem now but please do try to eat by getting enough protein and calories into your diet. You may find eating little and often is better than eating 3 big meals a day.

Try and move around, even going for a walk if you can, this will be good for your physical and mental health.

Also, do allow yourself to rest and try to get a good night's sleep.

While you are waiting you may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
