dendritic or not

Apologies  - I literally found your forum tonight and still finding my way around it so I have posted, but possibly in the wrong place - so I am just repeating it here and "asking the Nurses"

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer on 10 November  from MRI and biopsy on 17 October - stage T3a  - gleason score of 3 + 4 =7 - 4 of 18 cores with a PSA 3.2 (Aug 23)  - my NHS consultant wrote to me on 28 November and stated that there is "no urgency " in deciding my treatment

I was offered by the NHS on 10 November prostate removal or radiology with pre hormone treatment - I am very keen to find an alternative and have been researching various alternatives - nano knife - cryo - electrical and photodynamic therapy, together with dendritic cell therapy .

I have spoken to Dr at a clinic in Southampton and he is confident that nano knife procedure offers the best tried and tested option  and also being highly critical of the more contemporary options of dendritic cell therapy being quite critical of the German medical regulatory regime which allows the offering of untried untested and apparently not very successful therapies one being dendritic cell therapy

Dendritic cell therapy appears to offer the best curative and 'removal' option - such therapy is only available abroad and specifically only in Germany.

My question is relatively straight forward - as dendritic cell therapy appears to offer the best treatment option - what are its rates of success? Also does Cancer Research UK have a forum for prostate cancer patients and their stories of success and failure

Many thanks for being there

  • I think if you type in the Search Forum at the top you'll get people who have or have had prostrate cancer .

  • Jenny

Many thanks - I think I jumped in a bit sharpish without getting the lie of the land

  • Hi Tim not at all ,there's always someone here to help out , once you find a post that is closest to what you're looking for you can just tag your questions onto the end of the post and mostly people will offer their own advice or experience ,or you can make your own own post with a Title that relates to any questions you have , the Admins are also very good at pointing you in the right direction ,there are some really good people on this great Site more than willing to help out or just have a friendly chat so just pop in whenever you want Tim .

  • Dear Jenn

Many thanks for your reply and it is clear that the support goes broad and deep which I will follow up

Just repeating this in this category so no misunderstandings

Dreadful error, while I have made donations to and completed little sponsor efforts for Cancer Research UK , I realise that the £7,500 I raised on the MdS was for ALZHEIMERS research!! I am so sorry for having misled you -- it was late last night and after having spent the evening following up various proposals for and the possibilities of alternative treatments for the prostate cancer and then reviewing reviews on Trust  Pilot etc and THEN  having found your forum, I was on a role and I just wasn't thinking straight!! Profuse apologies! I hope I won't be "banished from the Kingdom"

  • Don't worry about a thing ,I hope you can get the treatment you are hoping for with help from this Site .

  • Hello Tim and thank you for your post

Although dendritic cell therapy has been around for several years now, it is not really part of main stream cancer medicine in the UK so we are unable to advise on success rates.

I see that it is offered in some private clinics on its own or alongside other unproven and sometimes questionable therapies. I have looked at trials with prostate cancer and dendritic cells, but there are none available currently that I can find.

The current research into dendritic cell therapy is looking at it being part of vaccine therapies that will be used as cancer treatments. You can read more about cancer vaccines, which include dendritic cell research on our website here.

Many people use online forums as a source of support. Our online forum Cancer Chat supports people affected by any cancer. Prostate Cancer UK have an online forum for people affected by prostate cancer where you can try and chat with other people going through the same or similar situation. This link takes you to the site.

Thank you for raising money for our charity. It is very much appreciated. Gives us a ring if you want to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
