Post menopausal bleed

Hi can you give me some guidance please I had a bleed yesterday first time in 6 years since I went through the menopause I’ve been to the GP and now have a referral I’m driving myself stupid with the worry that it’s cancer just need to talk to someone and others that are going through this

  • Hello Wendy and thanks for your post

Post menopausal bleeding can have a range of different causes and most won't be linked to cancer but the important thing is that this is going to be investigated. You can read more about post menopausal bleeding here. As well as a thickened uterine lining being a possible cause other things like polyps in the cervix, fibroids or thinning or inflammation in the vagina can also cause bleeding.

Waiting for your hospital appointment to come through to have further tests and see what the doctors think is inevitably worrying. But hopefully people will come along and share their experiences with you, as support like this can be invaluable. But it’s important to bear in mind that even if there are other people who have experienced similar things to you, I’m not sure that their experience will explain what may be going on with you.

I hope you know more soon and that everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you so much I really appreciate all the advice and support it really does help xx

  • I had that as well , had a hysterocopy, which isn’t painful , a little camera to see what’s going on .It was a fibroid and nothing nasty .xx

  • Thank you it’s nice to know I’m not on my own xx just been worried stupid and thinking the worst xx

  • Hi again hope your ok, thank you for helping before and hope you don’t mind me asking xx but the transvaginal has only flagged up fibroids but now I’ve got to have what you had a hysterectomy which has sent me like a spinning too as I’m now thinking what if they got the fibroid wrong from the transvaginal and it is the dreaded C. Fortunately my friend is quite high up in Gyny and she too has said transvaginal has not shown any cancer only fibroids, what was your journey like when you had all this happening and so hope don’t mind me asking my GO has put me on Diazepam to ease the anxiety never need on anything like that before and trying to hold down full time job thank you in advance xxx

  • The hysteroscopy is just more accurate, so don’t get too stressed . It was not painful at all ,and they could see more and told me there and then if they were concerned .I never had anything gynae before either . I had biopsy results within about 10 days .Good luck now xxx

  • Thank you so much for messaging me it means a lot just was so worried that it was something a lot worse than fibroids too much over thinking xxxx
