mr d reason end of chemotherapy

i have just finished my course of chemotherapy 3 weeks ago for lymphoma, Unfortunately it coincided with getting a chest infection which as lasted for 5 weeks. I have had 2 lots of antibiotics and have now been told the sputim sample is clear .I also have 2 lumps on each side under my chin which i have had for about 8 weeks, Any advice on why they are there and how do i get rid of them. I don't see my consultant for 6 weeks  because i have a pet scan first in january. My GP wont see me and suggested i contact my cancer team.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I am afraid I do not know why the lumps have appeared in your neck and I can't advise how to get rid of them.

It can take time for lymph nodes in our neck to go down after an infection, making them feel lumpy.  Also you have only recently finished treatment, so there could be different reasons for these lumps being there.

It would be best to contact your specialist nurse (CNS) or hospital team who knows you and your cancer. Let them know this has happened and your concern. It may be that they will want to wait until your scan and then review you properly in January while your body is still recovering from the infection and the chemotherapy.

Take care and if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
