Mitomycin but no BCG

Hi, new here so bear with me.

Stroke survivor from 2021 on warfarin etc medications to mess with, so I appreciate its difficult for staff to work with me.

Diagnosed with bladder cancer since 2022 and just had 3rd had TURBT operation.

I had a 6 dose Mytomicin after my 2nd operation but obviously failed.

Before my 3rd operation I asked the Consultant about having BCG, immediately after my growths removal, whilst in the theatre but got a politicians, round the houses answer so got nowhere.

I know a friend who had BCG and was cured.

I also asked why I was having A spinal anaesthetic for this 3rd time when the previous were general, again an avoiding answer.

Is there any way to get an answer from anyone.

Thanks Peter

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

    You explained your recent experiences.

Unfortunately, we can't really comment in depth, not being directly involved with your clinical care. There was for a period of time, a global shortage of the BCG treatment from the manufacturers. This may have been at the time of your planned treatment, but I don't know for sure. Sometimes there are other reasons for swapping to chemotherapy drugs instead.

The decision around your spinal anaesthetic would have made by the anaesthetist and not by your main consultant. Your history of stroke and the number of previous anaesthetics would have had a bearing on their assessment of you and their decision to use a spinal.

You need to talk this over with your team, or hospital specialist nurse when you get an opportunity.

I hope that you get your questions addressed soon.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
