breast and nipples issues.

backstory: Gave birth in 2020, breastfed my son who preferred my left breast to my right, so I produced more milk in the left one. July 2021 I stopped breastfeeding but my breast/nipple still leaked milk. Went to my GP they told me it was normal and should stop in a few months; that never happened. Overtime my breast stoped leaking milk but gradually around my cycle if I pushed down on my breast milk would come out. I’ve gone to the breast unit a few times and everything has been fine, I’ve had my bloods taken to check my prolactin levels which came back normal in 2021

Recently November 24th I noticed that my same left nipple looked moist, I wiped it away and decided to pressed down and milk came out, and my period wasn’t due until 2 weeks, but instead it came on the 29th November (2weeks early).

28th November the 2nd day of my period my nipple was moist again, wiped it away pressed down on my breast milk came out of the part that was moist.

3rd December the last day of my period was the last day I’ve had any moisture on my nipple, which was almost 2 weeks. During this time I made a GP consultation and was given a telephone call, where my GP has made me even more scared than ever. She said she’s aware I came to the GP back in 2021 regarding milk production and how the breast and nipple really need to be looked at and probably worth investigating. When I made my E-consult in November why wasn’t I given an appointment straight away instead making me wait for a telephone appointment and then being told all of this. Now I have to wait again till Monday to make another appointment face to face.

I’ve check my breast constantly throughout the day and haven’t felt anything. I suffer really badly from health anxiety and depression. I know I can’t ask should I be worried, but should I be worried? I just went for appointment at the breast clinic in October of this year, being discharged back to my doctor’s. Then in November a week before my period came I had a GP appointment and got my breast examined everything was fine. I really need help, I’m not doing okay.

  • Hello Tati and thank you for posting

I appreciate this nipple discharge is worrying you especially as you have anxiety but please try not to over think this.

As you were recently checked out in the breast unit this is unlikely to be anything concerning but I assume the doctor is being thorough wanting some more tests to be carried out.

Unfortunately no one here can say what may be going on for you as everyone is different but some women do leak milk outside of pregnancy and breast feeding without there being something seriously wrong.

I hope you are able to get some peace of mind soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
