Breast lump

I have had 2 breast lumps for a while, had them

checked 6 months ago via a scan and no further action but no explanation given but they are still there. I also has auxiliary breast tissue removed from the same

side armpit and that scar is lumpy. I am having breast pain and also bleeding through the month and period pains. Again, u had this checked 2 months ago and nothing abnormal. Does this sound cyclical? What could the lumps be and will they ever go away? Can you get lumps removed? I previously had auxiliary breast tissue removed from the other armpit and have been told my breasts are lumpy.

I feel worried constantly.

  • Hi Cath,

A very warm welcome to our forum.
Some women have naturally lumpy breasts. The fact that you have had a scan, which has shown that nothing abnormal was detected and that there was no cancer present is reassuring.

Not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts, or due to fibrous or hormonal changes. It is a fact that out of all the people who attend the breast clinic, only 20% of them will get a cancer diagnosisI am not a doctor, but understand that breast pain seldom accompanied a cancer diagnosis. It would be worth discussing your symptoms with your GP. S/he will also have the report of your scan and may be able to explain what was found and why you were discharged without any further action being taken.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. You’ll feel more reassured once you know the results in more detail. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello Cath86 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are worried about your health and some ongoing issues you have.

Unfortunately no one here can say what is causing your lumpy breasts and irregular bleeding so do talk this through with your GP if you remain concerned.

It sounds like you have had these checked out and some tests carried out that all came back okay but it is important to go back to your doctor with any ongoing symptoms. Your GP should have a copy of the test reports and may be able to explain the findings and put your mind at ease.

As I am sure you are aware there can be many reasons for symptoms and most will have a simple explanation far less serious than cancer.

Some women do have lumpier breasts than others and lumps can become more apparent just before a period alongside breast pain, so this could be one reason for this.

Do speak to your doctor and see what they have to say. Hopefully they can ease your anxiety or if needed arrange more tests for you.

    All the best

    Naomi

  • Thank you. The doctor did say that the lumps that were scanned were normal breast tissue when scanned 6 months ago.

They are like round lumps and feel different to breast tissue but maybe I do just have lumpier areas as I did with the armpit lumps. I have an appointment soon to discuss options to ease the pain.

I will ask to remove these if possible, do you know if this is a possibility? As it makes me anxious feeling both lumps all of the time. one feels  like a small oval  almonds but they do move.

Hopefully more reassurance and some helps for the pain will be sought at the doctors in a days time.

    Cath

  • Hello, and thanks for getting back to us again.

I think that it would be unlikely that they would remove the lumps especially if there are several of them unless they are concerned about them but you can ask.

Breast pain is common and is not usually caused because of cancer. There are different types of pain which include cyclical (around the time of your periods) pain, pain not linked to your periods or chest wall pain. Breast Cancer Now have produced some information about this which you might find helpful to read here

Wearing a supportive bra may also be a good idea.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Hi Cath,

The best of luck with your doctor's appointment.  I hope that they can give you something to help ease the pain.

    Kind regards,
