Chemotherapy after effects.

I finished chemotherapy treatment about 7 months ago after having a total hysterectomy due to stage 1 grade 3 cancer. I also had 3 sessions of brachitherapy which was traumatic. Since finishing treatment I have developed pain in both legs and at the top of my left arm I'm finding it hard to lift or reach for things. I find it hard to get comfortable enough to get rest or sleep. During the day I'm fatigued and have to force myself to get up and do stuff. I also have pins and needles on the front of my right leg. Are all these conditions normal and can they be relieved in any way? I already dose myself with ibuprofen and paracetamol to try easing the pain while in bed. Any suggestions as to hoe I can improve the situation please? I

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear that you have various symptoms at the moment.

I can't say whether or not they are connected to your previous treatment or not. They may not be related. Shoulder issues such as impingement, cuff injury, frozen shoulder, are all common in the general population, and physiotherapy exercises can help alot. Do ask for a referral from your GP, or seek private physiotherapy advice. There are various explanations for ongoing fatigue, do ask your GP to assess you and maybe do some blood tests. They can check your thyroid, blood sugars, and also for vitamin deficiencies. It is important to take a daily multivitamin, and a daily vitamin D supplement.

Pain down both legs could be related to back disc issues and sciatica. Again, ask your GP about physiotherapy. They can also request x-rays or an MRI scan to assess your lower back vertebrae discs. Try and do daily gentle stretching back and hip exercises. There are videos and help on the NHS website, but check with your GP/ or a physiotherapist first before doing new exercises.

    I hope that this helps,
