Hi my breast surgeon is awaiting histology from a second cancer found at my mastectomy and is now saying she might change me from Letrozole to this . I’ve asked why and she said to prevent recurrence but why change it? I was on Letrozole whilst waiting for surgery . Could it be that the second cancer grew in the meantime? It was not picked up by scan or mammogram . Thank you

  • Hi LCR,

I am so sorry to hear this and I hope that you find out what you are dealing with soon. I am not a doctor, so I'm sorry that I cannot answer your questions. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer within a year of one another. I took Tamoxifen for the first year, then changed to Letrozole for a further 6½ years. This was because the Tamoxifen hadn't kept the cancer away the first time. If you are worried about this, why not phone your breast care nurse and ask if she can give you any further explanation?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you , I’ll ring them x

  • Hi LCR,

It would be worth doing this, if only for your own peace of mind.

Please let us know what she says.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I see that Jolamine has given you some good advice already.

Generally, if  breast cancer comes back during or after treatment with hormone therapy, you are usually offered a different type of hormone therapy.

Hopefully, your breast care team or breast nurse can clarify this for you as they have all your medical details.

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
