Lump at the end of the anus

Hi

I have a pea-sized lump at the tip of my anus which makes it hard to pass wind and stool, when I am able to pass stools they're thin pencil-like, I am scared it might be cancer sometimes I get chills the lump is next to a protruding haemorrhoid when I use the creams with the applicator I can pass wind (small amounts) and then the lump starts to block it again, I tried to push it inside past the sphincter but it comes back down after a while, I didn't have pain until I start to touch it and feel around it, the lump is slightly to the left side of the anal opening it's causing me a lot of problems, sometimes I have flu-like symptoms when I wake up, feels like an abscess I'm not sure if it is infected, the creams don't seem to help, nor do sitz baths, I am a male 40 years old, 5'10" and 47KGs my appetite is fine, but I only get like 1 hour of sleep and then I wake up, I can stay awake I don't feel tried, I am really scared at first I thought it was anal caner, when I went to the GP he checked it with a finger, when I asked him about colon cancer he said I won't worry about it at this time, I am seeing the nurse on friday, it's swollen, and when I pass stools they get blocked I have to be completetly relaxed to pass them.

Please can someone give me some information as to what it may be, I will update you after I have seen the nurse. While using the applicator, I've made it hurt more because it's hard trying to find the anal opening, and the applicator tip just about goes in, it is very tight down there, and the area feels swollen, I am also using prescription medication its got prednisolone and some other medication.

  • Update, yesterday afternoon the prescription medication for piles was delivered to me, I used it about 3 times and used germonoid ointment and a Anusol suppository I've just been able to use the toilet a lot more easily I've gone from 5 - 10 percent to 60 - 70 percent feeling much better, didn't get chills and hot and cold sweats I tried feeling around for the lump again, and I can't really feel it unless it's gone back up, I am totally surprised at how fast it's worked the prescription ointment is called: 'Cinchocaine 0.5% / Prednisolone 0.19% ointment' it's either shrunk it or as I said it's gone up, I've used a lot of the ointment though and not have a lot left it was only 30 grams and I have about 10 grams left it said for the first day I can use it upto four times, and then twice a day, I've been able to do a cancer screening stool sample test, my doctor told me this test is 99% percent accurte i.e. if I have cancer this pit screening kit will catch it out, it's better then sigmo and colonopcy - even though I am still going to have that soon, whenever the gastro department can fit me, the last time I had it was end of 2020 (the year we shall not talk about ahem*, ahem* CO**D) I have Ulcrative Colits and rhoughly every 3 to 5 years I have the dreadded sigmo, I prefer the colonopcy it's less painful in my opnion but the doctors are the hospital are pretty pushy and want you to do a sigmo either way the nurses always tell me to take sedatives and painkillers even though I said I don't want to, because I don't want to take up a bed for like 2 - 3 hours even though I feel like I can be out of there as soon as it's over, sorry I digress, my backside hasn't felt this better since a long time, still have a little bit of pain, but the Gernoloids ointment which you can get over the counter, is significanally better than Anusol I feel slightly better mentally now, once this is over I'm going to take a holiday and explore the world a little, a few days ago I was terrfied I had cancer and I had so many regrets so just want to tick few things off my bucketlist there is no point saving money if it isn't going to be of much use HaShem/Allah forbid if I ended up having cancer or something.

So I mean it can't be cancer, can it? if it's shrunk with the ointment right? I'm going to drop the stool sample off at the surgery today just for some peace of mind, I am a lot less depressed after being able to use the toilet and having the ability to pass wind. Any advice guys? You all know better than me...

  • Hello and thank you for your posts,

I see that this has been a difficult time for you but it looks like the treatment you have been given has helped.

You tell us you are doing a stool test, this is likely to be the FIT test which looks for blood. If blood is found it might, in a small number of cases, mean that there is cancer. However, people can bleed for many reasons for example piles and ulcerative colitis.

You are also going to have a colonoscopy, which is the best way to see inside the anus and bowel. This will show if cancer is present, but of course, having to have one does not mean you necessarily have cancer.

Having tests and investigations done can be a worrying time so I hope you have some support.

I hope you continue to get better.

    Take care

    Caroline
