Nausea & tamoxifen

Hi,

I was diagnosed with DCIS in June and had a single mastectomy in July. I’ve been taking tamoxifen (20mg) for around 8 weeks now. For the past two weeks I’ve had persistent nausea, light headedness and generally feeling unwell. My GP seems to think it’s unlikely to be a side effect of the tamoxifen but all my bloods have come back normal which leaves me thinking it’s too coincidental for it not to be. My period this month has also been weird (stopping and starting). Has anyone experienced anything similar?! Two weeks of constant nausea is really taking it’s toll now. I was wondering if there’s anything that can be done to help - lower dose of tamoxifen, anti-sickness tablets etc?

  • Hello there and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your surgery for breast cancer earlier this year and the symptoms you are now experiencing.

Whilst I can't say for sure why you are feeling this way nausea, dizziness and a change to periods can all be linked to Tamoxifen so I think it best if you were to contact your breast care nurse about this.

You can talk this over with your specialist team and if they think there is a link they may suggest some ways how to best manage this. Sometimes switching to a different brand can help or in some case they might consider lowering the dose.

I hope this helps and you start feeling a bit more like yourself soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
