Undressing at breast clinic

Hi

I suspect this might depend on the hospital, but in general do you have to undress for each exam / test at the breast clinic or are you asked to change into a gown at the start of your appointment?

From what I’ve read I understand that there’s a lot of sitting around in waiting rooms and I know I’d be more comfortable wearing clothes than a gown in that situation.

Thanks

  • Hi there , when I went they gave me a choice whether to wear a cape with Velcro fastening or my own clothes . They keep you covered as much as they can and only expose you when they have to . The staff are very kind and understanding and do their best to get you through it as quickly as possible .I wish you all the best xx

  • Hello Jamiebl, they are all very professional and considerate, all staff who dealt with me were all women as well . They gave me a gown to change into , and you put it on ,back to front ,so you keep yourself well covered .xx

  • Hi,

when I went for the various tests I stayed in my own clothes and just undressed my top half for each scan etc as required. Everyone was lovely and treated me with great kindness xx

  • Hello JamieBL and thanks for the post

Sorry to hear you are waiting to be seen at the breast clinic and appreciate what an anxious time this can be.

As others have already said to you on the forum the staff will try and do all they can to make this experience as bearable as possible. Do let them know if you prefer to stay in your own clothes in between tests and I am sure they will be happy to accommodate your needs.

I hope everything goes okay for you but please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number is 0808 800 4040, we're here 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Naomi
