Wle and slnb results

Hi is it normal to wait 8 weeks for wle and slnb results. I did tell scns nurse she said consultant was away so will get appointment in 2 weeks time been nearly 3 weeks still not heard anything.  I will ring them on Monday if here nothing this week as my consultant is there on a Monday.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

It can take some time to get pathology results, I am sorry to say. In some hospitals, it can take even longer because of the workload and lack of staff.  So I am sorry you are waiting.

Do call the team again on Monday, as you say, if you have not heard anything.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thanks for the reply it just seems such along wait. If it turns out to be positive will they remove the rest of my lymph nodes from groin or will it be treatment. I had a few lymph nodes removed from right groin. I'm just hoping its going to be clear but mine was 2mm breslow  which is medium to high risk of spreading. The  good news  is I had ct scan and mri scan done back in July which were clear apart from ovary cyst which was just a simple one thats got to be checked every 3 months.

  • Hello Cat23j and thanks for getting back in touch

Having to wait so long for results can be very unsettling, so I do hope you know more very soon.

If the snlb result were to come back positive this usually means the melanoma is classed as stage 3, there are a couple of possibilities of treatment moving forward that are also explained here.

The options to be considered by the doctor as you say include a lymphatic node dissection removing all the lymph nodes in that area. However this does depend on the lymph node presentation during ultrasound as they may prefer to monitor the situation with regular ultrasounds or offer either a targeted or immunotherapy type treatment.

Do get back in touch if you need or want to.

Wishing you all the very best

    Naomi
