Chicken pox

Hi everyone.

My mum is currently in hospital and just had her stem cell transplant and last blast of chemo. My daughter has caught chicken pox at school! I have had them before when I was young however I'm unsure if I'm able to visit my mum or not? I cannot find on Google if I can still carry the virus without having the spots despite having had it before.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks x

  • I'm sure it can come back as shingles which is far worse in my opinion .

  • Hello and thank you for posting,

I'm sorry that you are having to juggle all this at the moment.

It would be good to speak to the doctors or nurses on the ward where Mum is to get their opinion on this, as they know where she is at in her treatment and how she is doing.

We do have some information on chicken pox further down the page on this link here. but speaking to those caring for her will give you something a bit more specific.

Take care and you may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Hi Sarah, thank you for your reply. I did speak to mums nurse today and they said as long as we wash and gown and glove up I can still hee her  she's in an air lock room so we gave to go into a separate room to scrub up before we go in. But she's doing amazing so they are fine with it thankfully. X
