Further lump though possibly just lipoma

I've a diagnosis of tongue cancer and have had a partial glossectomy. I am due for a neck dissection in a couple of weeks.

I have literally just found a lump in the lower part of my back but it is squishy and moves with no pain so am presuming it's a lipoma. My CT showed no growths in the chest or abdomen.

Obviously I will tell my surgeon but given that they aren't generally cancerous how likely is it they will want to remove it?

Thanks

  • Hello, and thanks for your recent post,

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery and that you are waiting to have a neck dissection.

I am afraid without being involved in your care it is difficult to say what they may do with the lump on the lower part of your back. If they feel that it is a lipoma they will probably leave it well alone.

I do hope your surgery goes well. We have some information on our website about tongue cancer and treatment which you may find helpful to look at here

You may also find it supportive to get in touch with the charity The Mouth Foundation. You can see their details here
