Malignant tumor of the gallbladder

My mother was diagnosed with malignant tumor of the gallbladder 8 months ago. She's on palliative chemotherapy as there is no other options for her. She's in pain every day, depressed and very weak.

Has anyone been in similar situation?  Please share your thoughts.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am very sorry to hear about your mother's situation and I can appreciate that this is a difficult time for you both.

I see that she is having chemotherapy so you and your mother may wish to talk with the nurses giving her treatment about her symptoms and how she is coping. You could also, talk to your mum's clinical nurse specialist about the pain and depression she is having and ask what can be done to help her.

Your mother may also benefit from having a community palliative care team involved in her care at home. These teams can see your mum and make her feel better, they are symptom control specialists. Your mother's GP or hospital team can refer her to this service.

We have information on our website about coping and getting support at home, you can see it here.

I hope you can get some support for your mother so that she can feel better. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
