Brain met

Hi, feeling very lost. My fiancee had a lobectomy and chemotherapy late 2022 early 2023. She now has 2 brain tumours, both have bled. They were going to remove the larger one until the smaller one bled. They said they hoped to give full brain radiotherapy, but without a reason why just said not doing it. She is otherwise a healthy 56 year old. How do I get a second opinion ? Seems like they just gave up on her.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am very sorry to hear abut your fiancee's situation and appreciate what an anxious time this must be for you both.

Unfortunately without being involved in your fiancee's care I can't say why the specialist team no longer feel radiotherapy is an appropriate treatment for her. I would however encourage you and your fiancee to discuss this with her specialist nurse or doctor to get some more answers about this, and why they don't think this is now an option for her.

It isn't unusual for some patients and their loved ones to seek out a second opinion at some point and there is more information about this here. The hospital doctor or GP can refer your fiancee to another specialist team for them to review her case and give their medical opinion.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
