Scared

I have two cysts in my pancreas that are pre cancerous and diagnosed in 2021. Since then I’ve had routine MRI scans 6 monthly but the latest one completed in august was a yearly scan.
up until now my results have always been given over the phone and no face to face appointments. However today I have received a letter for a face to face appointment on October 3rd with my consultant. It will be the first time I’ve seen him since 2021 and I’ve had no indication of why it’s face to face and over the phone. I’m absolutely terrified and just looking for some reassurance that it might not be to tell me the worst case scenario :(

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry that you are concerned about your forthcoming appointment but I am afraid I can't tell you what I think it is about. It is not unusual for a consultant to request a face-to-face appointment particularly as you haven't seen them face-to-face for such a long time.

They may want to suggest changes in how you are being screened or they may want to do further tests based on your last scan.

The charity Pancreatic UK has some information on pancreatic cysts and questions to ask your doctor which you may find helpful to look at here

Try not to overthink it for now. If you would find it helpful to ring and speak to one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to do so. our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    all the best,

    Catherine
