Kirsty that does seem like a long time to me and it will feel even longer to you especially with it being invasive ,however I suppose we have to trust they know what they're doing and I'm sure its the earliest they can fit you in ,the amount of people waiting for treatment ,shortage of staff and Doctor /Consultant  strikes are a big problem ,but only another week to wait I'm sure you'll be fine x

Sorry to find you on here so worried.  There are some delays between first diagnosis and treatment, they will want to know exactly what they’re dealing with and your case will be discussed at a multidisciplinary meeting.  The surgeon will also have to find a slot in their diary.  It’s completely understandable to worry about spread during this time, I felt just the same.  Trust in your team, they will look after you.  I was told there was no risk of spread with reasonable delay.  They usually work to within a 12 week window, (I think I was 10 weeks, but they did have to go back to do further testing with me so that took a bit longer).  You are well within that.

You will soon be out the other side of this and getting on with your life!  I’m 18 months on from a mastectomy and a small area of invasive ductal with DCIS.  All is well.  Good luck.

Hello Kirsty and thank you for posting. 

It isn't unusual for there to be a few weeks between diagnosis and then surgery. Unfortunately at the moment things are a bit difficult with waiting times, but I do not expect that a 6 week wait will make a difference to the outcome of your surgery. If you are further concerned then do speak to your hospital team as they know you and your cancer.
