Male breast cancer question

Hi, I have had an unexpected rash around my right nipple, and can feel a small pee sized lump in my breast (I can’t find a similar lump in my left breast) and the skin is sore around the nipple.

Over the last week the rash is declining but the soreness remains.

I have been given some antibiotics to see of they can make it go away and have now started to take them.

I have had a lump in my right armpit most of the last year but the dr thought it may be a fatty cyst. I am 15 stone 5 and so overweight. I also have a couple of red marks under the armpit too.

my question is do the symptoms of male breast cancer come and then decline in this way?

If its a general infection, its a little odd its just in my breast around my nipple and extending an inch or so above to the left. I guess I’m looking for some insights/reassurance or not.

Sorry to waste anyone’s time,

Shame I can’t upload a picture.

Thanks,

Sam

  • Not wasting anyone's time. Sorry I don't know the answers but I hope that someone will do so.

  • Hello Sam,

I'm afraid we can't diagnose anyone and nor can we be all that reassuring just because we have no way of knowing for sure what might be the matter.

In general cancer symptoms are usually persistent.  I am not sure if the rash started to go down after you started the antibiotics or beforehand. When a rash responds to antibiotics it suggests an infection was the cause.  But aside from the rash, you mentioned a pea sized lump and some soreness.  It these don't go way after you have finished the antibiotics, you should see your GP again and get their input and you can ask them to have another look at your armpit too.

Breast cancer in men is rare so another explanation for your symptoms is more likely. Even so, it is sensible to follow things up with the GP and get their opinion.  If they think it is necessary they can arrange tests but they might not think they need to.
