Symptons

I has a Lobectomy in March top lobe of right lung removed followed by 4 rounds of Chemotherapy which ended in June when I was given the all clear.

I am having these symptoms,  cough, pain across diaphram and under bottom of right side of ribs, feeling of lump in my throat, headaches, my hair is still falling out in handfalls but new hair is growing underneath, I'm also having horrible dreams and bad nights sweats, I take hrt and antidepressants.

My GP told me to take paracetamol and has given me an inhaler which hasn't made much difference,

I just feel that something is not right.

I'd appreciate your advice.

  • Hi there and thanks for posting.

I was sorry to read you needed to have recent surgery and chemotherapy for lung cancer. This must be a difficult time for you.

It sounds like you are still having a few side effects which is understandably causing concern. Firstly I would just say you have been through a lot of treatment and I am not surprised that after a couple of months of completing treatment you are still recovering and still not feeling yourself. Recovery is gradual and it can take many months even longer before you might start to feel fully better. Certainly with the surgery you have had if nerves have been affected, you may continue to experience pain for quite some time. It can also take several months for hair to grow back. Everyone's situation is individual.

I know you have been to your GP about this but I wondered if you have you been in touch with your lung nurse specialist or specialist at the hospital about your concerns? As they are involved with your care they would be best placed to advise you especially if you feel your symptoms are getting worse. I think it is is also worth going back to your GP and saying that the paracetamol and inhaler aren't helping.

I hope this helps. Do get back in touch if you need any further information and support and you can always ring our helpline and speak with one of our cancer information nurses directly freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9 am to 5pm Monday to Friday

    Take care ,
