  • Hello John1991 and thanks for posting,

Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes is known as jaundice.

The yellow colour comes from a substance called bilirubin which is mostly made when red blood cells naturally break down.  When red blood cells die, bilirubin goes into the bloodstream and is then processed by the liver so it can be passed out of the body in bile through the gut. If the liver isn't working properly this can't happen so bilirubin levels build up causing jaundice. Jaundice can be caused either because the liver isn't working properly or because there is a blockage in the bile duct.

I hope things settle down soon.
