Breast cancer diagnosis

I was at the breast clinic yesterday. Had mammogram then ultrasound. The consultant performed the ultrasound and then said it was cancer and said may be lumpectomy or mastectomy...was a little taken back by the bluntness. Then had core biopsy 3 from breast 2 from armpit. Then advised I needed to have another mammogram to check clips in correct position that they had put in....nothing about these where explained. I was then given a leaflet with my breast nurse name and contact details and told I have appointment by phone in 2 weeks to advise a treatment plan

Can a diagnosis be made before the biopsy.

Thanks

  • Hi Tib,

I went through this same thing on Wednesday, my ultra sound and mammogram showed a solid lump, they said it was very suspicious and didn’t look good, they also took 4 biopsies and said until they get them back they can’t say it’s cancer. They also put in a metal tag and was told this is so they can trace where they had taken the biopsies from so they can find it in future. Then I had a meeting with the consultant who told me sorry it’s not good news but have to wait for the results…..they basically told me I have cancer without saying it (if that makes sense) the waiting is killing me as I don’t really know what to tell my family. Please keep us informed x

  • Hi Lebell84

Sounds like we had the same experience. The only difference is the consultant said it was cancer, still hoping he may be wrong. Do you have a date for your results? Mine are 29th Sept. The waiting I think is the hard part, you sound exactly like me and just want to know. Please keep in touch, we can maybe help each other through this.

Take care xxx love Tracey xxx
