Possible Mole Behind Ear. I’ve Cut off. Very worries.

I’ve had a mole or growth which is of white colour growing behind my ear for at least 5 years. Recently it has doubled in size & became sore to touch.

Not wanting to waste NHS time I have twice sliced it off with a razor blade. On both occasions it took over 2hours to stop bleeding.

Of course a silly thing to do.
Is it possible anyone can guide me in the right direction.

  • You must see your GP. Trying to remove any growth is a no no. If it turns out to be a cancerous growth it may still have grown below the skin's surface & it will continue to grow without you being aware. It's not what is going on on the surface of the skin but underneath the skin that's important and if you remove the growth it's harder for a doctor to see the exact location of where it was. Also, a lot of GPs are now trained in the use of a dermascope - it allows them to photograph the growth and see if the cells are changing. If you remove the growth they can't see what's going on. So please don't remove it if it's still there or it regrows. You're not wasting the NHS time so see your GP please.

  • Hello JIM1990,

I agree with Angie, the best thing to do is to get a GP appointment. I am not sure if this mole has regrown since you last tried to cut it off or if you cut it off again recently, but either way your GP can make an assessment to decide if it is anything to be concerned about or if you need to see a skin specialist (dermatologist) about it.

I think you already know, that it isn't advisable to try and cut of skin growths or moles yourself, so please don't do this again.  As Angie explainiend there is the risk that if a growth or mole is a type of cancer, some of it might remain when it should all be removed. However we don't know if this growth/mole is anything to worry about so to find out, do get in touch with your doctor to get their input - I am sure they would want you to see them about this.
