Staying cool and hydrated

I'm just looking for advice on how to keep cool and stay hydrated please.

I get a lot of pain in my throat and tummy, and it's often accompanied by nausea which makes drinking unpleasant at times. I know drinking is the main way of keeping hydrated and cool but I'm wondering if you can suggest any other ways please?

Sleeping is an issue as well. I get pain in my neck and also wake up really hot and sweaty - had this before the hot weather started.

Thanks so much I hope you can help me with this :)

  • Hello, I am one of the cancer helpline nurses.

I am not sure if you have been diagnosed with cancer and are currently having treatment. If you are then please do let your cancer team know about your symptoms as they could be related to an infection.

You may find the information from the NHS about how to stay cool in a heatwave is helpful as it gives some tips on what you can do, you can see it on the NHS website here.

If you are affected by cancer then please do get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Caroline.

  • Hi Caroline, yes I am diagnosed and undergoing treatment. I have an appointment at the hospital next week, thankfully it should be a lot cooler by then too! I will give my team a call and see what they say and suggest. I think most of what I'm experiencing is normal given what's occuring with my body and treatment.
Thanks for your help with this. If I have any other questions I will get in touch again.
    Thanks, AuT.
