Slight weight gain

My Mum has breast cancer secondaries in her stomach and it’s migrated to her bowel.

She has lost a lot of weight this year and is verging on anorexic really, barely eating, but now her vomiting is controlled with anti emetics.

Today she was weighed at the hospital and in fact she’s gained 3Ibs in a month (up to 6 stone 11 now.)

Is this as good a sign as it seems? Or is it “false” weight gain?

I’m forever trying to manage my own expectations.

Thank you.

  • Hello LisaLou24 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about your mum and understand what you mean about managing expectations.

I am not really sure what to make of this slight weight gain, it is probably best to see is if carries on rather than drawing any conclusions for now, but I don't think it is a bad sign. Now the vomiting is better controlled your mum may be able to eat more.

Grazing lots of small snacks can often be useful rather than trying to tackle large meals which might be off putting - but I expect you know this. If you haven't already seen them, our website has some tips about gaining weight here.
