Worried newbie!

A couple of weeks ago I discovered a ‘lump’ above my right breast but below my collar bone- it seems to be sitting on my first rib near to the centre if that makes sense!

I have been quietly pretending it’s not there but a friend commented on it the other day as I had a low ish necked t shirt on.

It’s not an obvious round lump, more a flattish, irregular dome shape ( sorry for the terrible description!) I can feel it to varying different degrees depending how I’m sitting/lying. If I pull the skin tighter across it- the skin appears dimpled in that area.

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow but I’m now worried that I’m going to be wasting her time and it’s nothing. I’m equally worried that it’s something sinister and I should’ve gone sooner!

A little background on me- 52 year old single mum who hit early menopause at 41

Hope it’s ok to post this- I’m new!

  • Hello Kazza21 and thanks for posting

It can be a worry to notice a lump or bump in our bodies that wasn't there before, however there can be many causes and most won't be the result of anything as serious as a cancer.

You have done the right thing to see your GP about this and I hope your appointment goes well today. Doctors are good at assessing this type of thing and if needed can arrange for you to have some more tests.

Try not to over think things too much if you can for now and see what they have to say.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Naomi
