they are now going to test the liquid when drained out of the lung, as they have done this as a two week emergency. Has anyone else had something like this? We have been told it may be lung cancer.

many help would be much appreciated

  • Hello Sonix0302 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your father's situation and appreciate this must be an worrying time for all the family.

Unfortunately there is no one who can tell you what is causing these problems until the doctors have run more tests. There are a number of conditions that can cause this both benign ( non cancerous) and cancer but until the doctors have all the information they won't be able to say for sure.

It is important the doctors rule cancer out as a possibility and the quickest way for people to get tests within the NHS is on the suspected cancer pathway, which is why they have fast tracked him.

Sit tight for now as best you can and hopefully you will have more answers soon.

Whilst others on here may have been through something similar to this remember the outcome could be very different so it is difficult to compare stories.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
