Bladder Cancer Metastasis into Lungs

My mum's unusual growth in bladder was first identified in 2021. The tumour was removed (identifed as benign in a subsequent biopsy) and BCG procedure done. Last year it returned, requiring the bladder to be removed but no chemo was done. After a recent PET scan, it was found to have metastasised in lungs.

She is in India and started chemo with Gemcitabine and Carboplatin as at last week.

I want to speak to her doctor to find out more about her condition and how we can support her but not sure where to start and how I should structure my questions. Can you please help?

Also is there anything that we can do to support my mum as she goes through this procedure?

Thank you!

  • Hello VinnyAro and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your mum's situation and appreciate it must be difficult for you her living so far away from you whilst having her treatment.

If you are able to have a conversation with her doctor to understand your mum's situation more I think this would be helpful for you and the rest of the family. It is probably most useful to ask what they hope the chemotherapy will achieve and what the future may look like for your mum.

In terms of the treatment it can be challenging supporting someone undergoing treatment overseas. We do however have some information about supporting a loved one with cancer here. As I say it can be tricky to give practical help from afar but perhaps there are other relatives, friends or neighbours who can also help your mum in this way during her treatment.

If you haven't already do talk to your mum herself about all of this and ask her what she needs you to do for her at this time, accepting this may change.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You can also talk to the nurses on our helpline on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Naomi
