Advice

I was informed this morning that my step mother has liver and spine cancer and has been put on palliative care 3 years after having her breasts removed from cancer is there any price or place that can help .

I'm a first time user and feel embarrassed for asking for help

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your step mother. This must be a difficult time for you all.

It is difficult for us to answer questions like this as we are not involved in her clinical care. But your step mother's specialist team are better placed to advise you on her current condition as they are familiar with all her medical details. If she has a specialist nurse involved in her care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you. If you have any difficulty getting in touch with the hospital, then your step mother's GP should be able to help.

I’m not sure if your step mother is being supported at home by a community palliative care team, often they are known as the Macmillan team. These specialist nurses and doctors are experts in controlling cancer symptoms. They can prescribe medications that may help with her symptoms.  If she does not have a palliative care team involved in her care you could ask her GP to refer her.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you would like to talk any of this over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
