Found a lump and I’m scared

Hi all

Sorry to jump in here the last 24hrs have been a rollercoaster!

I found a lump last night, just above my nipple the size of a raisin, skin is very red and it’s really sore. So fortunate to have private health care so managed to get a GP appointment this morning. She thought infection but wanted a Doctor to assess, so off I went to walk in centre, they thought cyst. So back to GP (on insurance so grateful to have this through partner work) and she has referred me to breast specialist for ultrasound.

Then this afternoon I found a lump in my armpit about half size of raisin. Absolute panic has hit me!! The referral to specialist is on the 2 week wait thing but I’m googling and searching everything and going slightly insane!!

I can’t do this for 2 weeks! Not sure what I’m asking or what I’m looking for but reading some of your posts I thought I’d be in safe hands xxx

  • Hi Amy ,try not to get stressed out by Google now .If it’s hot and sore it might be a cyst or an abscess . The swelling in armpit might be a swollen lymph gland as you might have an infection ,don’t jump to any conclusions now .Keep busy and positive .
Keep in touch and all the best R xxx

  • thank you R, that’s my plan today, I’ve read the whole of the internet and will not be going anywhere near it today

    thank you for replying xx

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

Finding any lump can be very unsettling but as the other forum member has suggested try not to jump to any conclusions.

There are many different reasons for lumps to occur and as your doctor suggested it may well be a cyst. Lymph nodes can go up and down when an infection is present. Staying off the internet is a good idea as you will not be able to diagnose yourself.

The majority of women who are referred to breast clinics are found not to have cancer.

The charity Breast Cancer Now has produced some information on benign breast conditions which you may find helpful to look at here

I do hope that you know more soon.

The nurses are on the helpline if you would like to talk any of this through. The lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and the helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you so much, the lump isn’t as painful and seems to be going down/changing but not as swollen and a bit more defined

I think I will give the phone line a call just need my worries heard don’t want to keep talking to husband as he’s worried but I’m thinking about it constantly!
