Second Opinion on Biopsy Results

I underwent a hysteroscopy on 28.7.23 following an urgent referral for suspected cancer.  My CA-125 blood test result was high (159) and I have a family history of ovarian and endometrial cancer.  I have also had breast cancer in 2019. I was informed that the results would take a couple of weeks to come through.  However, I have now been informed that the results have bee send to another Histopathologist at a Hospital in London and will not be available until 13/9/23, some 7 weeks after the operation.  What would be the usual reason for seeking a second opinion?

  • Hello there and thanks for your post

I am sorry to hear you are currently awaiting test results and appreciate what an anxious time this can be.

Having to wait even longer for a second opinion from histopathology also can't be easy for you. The reason that a pathology sample is sent to another hospital for testing is because they either need further tests carried out on it that they are unable to run at that hospital, or for a second opinion to confirm the findings that will guide the most appropriate management or treatment.

Try and sit tight as best you can for now. Keeping busy and your mind on other things can sometimes help pass the time.

    All the best

    Naomi

  • My biopsy results were inconclusive and were sent to another hospital for a second opinion because of that,
