could it be cancer.

hi,

im 25 and since last year I noticed this pea sized lump in my left breast, I can move it between my fingers when I can find it because  it’s very hard to find when laying down but when I sit up to examine myself I can feel it (it can sometimes be hard to find) I’ve had my breast examination from my GP a few times but I never pointed out the lump to them. i got referred to the breast cancer clinic last year not for the lump but because the Dr felt that my breast (left) was lumpy, I went to the hospital for another examination but nothing else, no ultrasound, no mammogram. He just told me my breast were fine.

i got my breast examined back in may of this year and the Dr felt nothing, no lump but I always keep forgetting to tell them of the lump I feel when I’m sitting up not laying down. i know this probably sounds silly but can lump move or ‘disappear’ when laying down? i have a GP appointment tomorrow (hopefully) but I’m extremely anxious because I’ve been reading about women that have been told their fibroadenas lumps turned out to be cancer! and because I waited to long to point it out.

i have EXTREME health anxiety issues and sometimes feel like I’m bothering my doctors with nonsense.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the concern you have about your breast.

You have done the right thing in having a GP appointment to discuss the pea size lump you feel in your breast. I am afraid that we can't say if this is anything to be concerned about.

You might also want to let your GP know about your health anxiety. The NHS has some information about this that you might find helpful to read, click here  to see it.

I hope your appointment goes well. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
