Stomach cancer now in bowel but started as breast cancer.

So, it’s breast cancer that’s caused stomach cancer and that’s now migrated to her bowel.

Honestly, I’m so confused and her oncologist is an appalling communicator. Appalling.

Treatment remains the same - staying on oral chemo. But it all feels very random, very out of control and uncertain.

Thanks.

  • Hello Lisalou24 and thank you for the update about your mum,

I am sorry to learn that your mum's doctors think her breast cancer has spread. I can appreciate this is upsetting news.

There is often uncertainty about how any advanced cancer will behave and what will happen in the coming months.  Although doctors might be able to suggest what could happen, they can't predict exactly how things will go.

With treatment, doctors aren't able to say exactly what the benefits might be for an individual, and because it can cause side effects, they usually need to see how well treatment is working before deciding whether to carry on. This can make things seem up in the air.

I am sorry the oncologist isn't a good communicator, if there is a specialist nurse at the hospital involved in your mum's care it might be worth speaking to them. Or alternatively, her GP once they have been updated by the hospital.

If you want to talk anything over please give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around from 9-5 weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
