Her2+3 non invasive 68mm

Hi,

I was diagnosed on 29/06/23 high grade DCIS with calcification Her2+3, oestrogen and progesterone negative . and have been offered mastectomy and immediate diep reconstruction surgery but no chemo as non invasive as far as the biopsy showed. I am also waiting on a genetics test to see if a double mastectomy is necessary.  I have 2 lumps in left breast 68mm and 17mm, lymph node was clear
my ongoing distress is about the waiting to see what final surgery I’ll be having and if the cancer is spreading while I wait

Is it safe to wait this long as all I keep reading is how aggressive Her2 is. I probably won’t have surgery until mid September which will be nearly 12 weeks by then. It’s all I think about every day all day.

please can you explain Her2+ and the grading and if its aggressive and if it’s safe for me to wait for surgery

thank you so much for your help

  • Hello Ppurple and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are waiting for more tests and then surgery. I can appreciate this is a stressful time.

As far as I know although HER2 positivity can be a feature in high grade DCIS, beyond that, its significance isn't well understood.  I am not sure what you have read but HER2 positive DCIS isn't the same as HER2 positive invasive breast cancer.  Do ty and talk to someone from your specialist team about this as they are in the best position to explain things and provide the right context.

Bear in mind that DCIS may never develop into cancer.

I hope you can easily get hold of soemone who can put your mind more at rest.

Please do give us a call if you would like to talk anything over. Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,
