Lung cancer / Access sweating

My dad (72 yrs old) is currently under investigation for lung cancer. Hes had a few CT scans now which have indicated a growth and features consistent with lung cancer. He's recently had a PET scan, and a lung biopsy (approx 1 week ago) so just waiting for the formal results now.

We have noticed over the past couple of weeks, he is sweating excessively. Hes usually quite an active person but even the slight little bit of movement (very short walk from the house to the car say) will cause him to sweat excessively +++ - to the point hes then needing to jump into the shower. They aren't night sweats but occur more in the day, and he describes it as being a cold sweat.

He does have a GP appointment to discuss this, but can this be linked to possible cancer at all, and is there any way to manage it? (It's getting him abit down). He is otherwise well, no signs of illness, no other symptoms really, no fever

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Sweating can sometimes be a symptom of cancer but it can also be a symptom of other health conditions or an infection. It's good that your dad is going to see his GP about this. They will assess him and advise him further.

In the meantime, we have some information on our website on the possible causes of sweating and how it can be managed at this link.

I hope this is of some use. Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
