Confused

So I am 34 years old. I have had uti symtoms for months - I only ever speak to a nurse via the triage system however only 1 actually uti infection. All urine samples are clear however I recently requested to speak to the gp who all of a sudden did bloods which showed a ca125 result of 650. I have never had this test done before and am confused as to what is going on as I she rushed me for an ultra sound of my abdomen and bladder- I was told the lady doing the scan that there was “nothing sinister and kidney/bladder looks good.  Now Iv got a letter for a phone consultation with the gyne oncologist.

no one is really explaining what is going on and the only thing bothering me is the fact I’m bloated beyond belief and can’t eat much.Iv been prescribed iron and folic acid

can anyone explain what I should be expecting ?  Any recommendations to reduce bloating ?

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I can only imagine how unsettling this must be for you.

A raised CA125 blood test indicates that there is inflammation but this could be caused by many different reasons including endometriosis, an ovarian cyst for example as well as a possible ovarian cancer. The charity Target Ovarian has information about the CA125 test which you can read about here

The doctors are on a fact-finding mission to find out why your CA125 is raised and the explanation for your symptoms. They probably can't tell you much until they know more themselves. It is good to hear that your ultrasound did not show anything suspicious.

Hopefully, when you have your phone consultation with the Gynae doctor she will be able to tell you more. Try and jot down some questions for her and don't be afraid to ask questions. You may find it helpful to have someone listening in to your conversation so you make sure you have a full understanding of what they are saying.

The NHS has some tips to help with bloating which you may find helpful here

I do hope that you know more soon. Try and take one day at a time and try not to overthink it all.

If you would like to chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more than welcome to give us a ring.

Our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.  We are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    Take care,
