Time for results of biopsy

In your experience, how long do the results take from a peri-renal biopsy?

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are waiting for results and I can understand how unsettling it must be.

I am afraid I can't say how long it will take. It does vary from hospital to hospital depending on a pathologist's workload and whether there is a shortage of pathologists in the hospital.

Without being involved in your care I am not sure whether you have had any other investigations such as any scans as these would all need to be looked at as well.  Normally any suspected cancer is reviewed in a large formal meeting where all the doctors involved in someone's care look at the results of all the different tests.

If this is the case with you or someone you know then normally you should expect the results after the doctors have discussed the case.

If you do feel that it is taking a long time then you could always ring the doctor's secretary to find out when you are likely to hear.

You are very welcome to give the helpline nurses a call if you would like to talk it through. Our helpline number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • My apologies if I did not word my question very well.

I've had a CT scan and now a biopsy. The doctor who did the biopsy said at least a week, the nurses in the ward a couple of weeks, our niece who is a doctor elsewhere said several weeks. I have not been waiting long at all; I had the biopsy done last Friday. I only wondered about your experiences. Thank you for your reply.
