Hi. Have you heard if there are shortages in the UK of Letrazole? Went to Boots to pick up my prescription and they say both their suppliers are out of stock.
Concerned this may impact on my cancer defense if there is a break.
Hi g-string, I also take letraxole, dispensed through Boots in Scotland. I have heard nothing about shortages. During 8 months taking this I have had 4 different brands without a problem. Did they say when it would be in stock ? Any reason at all for shortages.? Is this one of the Boots closing down ? Do let us know of any development regarding this .Best wishes .
Branch isn't one marked for closure (Dorchester branch). They just said both manufacturers out of stock and couldn't say when they would get more. So got to start ringing other pharmacies in area to see if they have it and then faff about trying to ring GP for another prescription! Not easy on a Monday! Needs must as run out Monday
This has happened just once before a couple if years ago (another chemist) in Dorchester. Hence move to Boots assuming they would have better supplies
I work as a pharmacy technician. When I'm at work tomorrow I can check the stock levels of Letrozole at one of the pharmaceutical wholesalers and let you know if that helps?
I've checked this morning and all makes of Letrozole are currently out of stock at Alliance Healthcare (they supply most UK pharmacies with their stock along with AAH). You could try a Well pharmacy as they have their own wholsaler as well as using Alliance and AAH.
I've emailed one of the manufacturers to see if it is a long-term issue so I'll let you know if I hear back.
Thanks for the reply. That is very worrying as personally I run out today! Going to try chemist in area anyway to see if they have any on shelves. Otherwise I we need to ask what is the alternative

You should now let your breast team know, this could be your breast cancer nurse, about this. If you are not able to get any letrozole you could ask if another type of hormonal treatment could be prescribed in the meantime. I am not sure if this can be done but do ask.

Thanks Caroline. Managed to find one pack in another tien so frantically trying to get a prescription from GP which is a challenge in itself. Meanwhile I've left a message with the breast nurses to ring me. Just to get info on alternatives should this plan fail and for future reference, especially if no stock continue. Nobody seems to know why this has happened. Massive issue though.
