Worried CKM

This is all new to me but I recently went to my GP regarding a lump I found on my le breast . After examining me she decided to send me for a mammogram even though she thought it was nothing to worry about. On Sunday I had my appointment the breast I went with was fine however the mammogram picked up a 8mm lump they sent me for an ultrasound but they couldn’t say what it was so they did a biopsy and put titanium in the place of the lump . I’m extremely concerned about this incase it’s cancer , I asked the consultant if he thought it was cancer but he said he didn’t know and it was 50/50 , I then asked if it was how far would it be he said my lymph nodes were fine . Please any feedback would be greatly appreciated xx

  • Hi ckm, sounds as if you could be waiting about 2 weeks for biopsy results before a clearer answer can determine what is there. Be positive you say  no lymph node involvement that's good & it's tiny 8 mm take a breath time & size is in your favour best wishes.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I can appreciate your current concern.

Titanium chips can be used in several situations in assessing breast symptoms. For example if there is a very tiny area of concern that could potentially be entirely removed with a biopsy the chip can mark where it was. Or to prevent the need for further biopsies in the future if something were to keep on coming up as abnormal on scans. The chip can also help to show if something seen on a mammogram can also be seen in the same place on an ultrasound and visa versa. So I think in general they are quite standard and help the doctors to figure out what is going on.

Most breast issues turn out to not be cancer, but it is important to be thorough. So, do keep an open mind about it.

Try and keep yourself busy whilst you wait for the biopsy result.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
