Hi,
Following an MRI in December, a small mass was discovered on my right kidney. I then had a CT scan and another MRI before a robotics partially nephrectomy almost 3 weeks ago. After surgery my surgeon said that the 4cm growth wasn't actually in my kidney, but on it. it was covered with it's own layer of fat which apparently made it easier to separate from the kidney. Fortunately I didn't lose any of my kidney and I still have 2 whole ones. I didn't need a drain and my blood loss during the operation was apparently only about 20ml. No one has actually said the word 'cancer' to me, though my discharge notes say that the final diagnosis was malignant neoplasm of nephrotic tissue.
My incision sites are healing well, though I am still a little bruised underneath some of them. I consider myself to be lucky as it could have been a very different outcome.
My concern now is my out patient appointment with my consultant in a couple of weeks where I guess I will be told pathology results. I have had nothing to suggest may need further treatment but my mind is working overtime and I am thinking the worst. What have other experiences been? I guess I'm after some positivity and reassurance.
Thank you.
