Weird thing near anus / ***?? I'm really scared

For a start I don't have any symptoms of bleeding or itching yet, I don't think I go as often as I did and always feel strange up there and might have some discharge sometimes I'm not sure but when I look at it there's a squishy kind of circle but it isn't round its like a circular squishy patch underneath or coming out my anus I have no clue what it is and I told my nan about it and that I wanted to get a doctors appointment but she said it was fine, she used to be a nurse and I didn't let her look at it because it's embarrassing but I'm very worried about it.

  • Also I'm 15, I do have a family history of piles in my dad and nan but by symptoms don't really add up and it comes out more if I push but I don't know whether it is something like cancer because I think its squishy but I'm just wondering what it can be and if I was right to suggest a doctors appointment

  • Sounds very much like piles, or hemorrhoids is their proper name and very common. Doctors generally do not do anything unless they are a bit bigger and a problem. It is a bit like a varicose vein in someone leg where it pops out when you put it under pressure. Straining makes it worse so avoid getting constipated.

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I would make an appointment with your GP so they can examine the area and hopefully put your mind at rest. It could be haemorrhoids as the other forum member suggested but of course, I can't be sure. You can read on the NHS information about haemorrhoids here

Haemorrhoids can be caused by straining when you want to pass a bowel motion. Drinking plenty of water, at least 2 litres a day may help. Try to increase the fibre in your diet. Eating wholemeal bread, plenty of vegetables and fruit should help.

The NHS have produced some tips on how to increase your fibre intake here

I can understand that it is embarrassing showing the intimate parts of your body to the doctor but do remember that is what they are trained to do and I am sure they will put you at ease. You may be able to request a female doctor or have a chaperone with you when you go in if that is what you would like.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Many apologies, I should add that it is best to get it checked as examination is very important to any diagnosis. Don't be too stressed as these sorts of things are what doctors check every day.
