Biopsy results

I had a biopsy on 22nd May. I have my follow-up on 20th June. I have today received an appointment with an Oncoligist for 3rd of May. My guess is my biopsy has finally come back and is positive (nice way to let me know if that's correct) is it usual to receive an oncologist appointment before a face to face follow up?

  • Hello, and thanks for your post,

I can understand that this must be unsettling so do talk to the doctor at your follow-up appointment tomorrow. The surgical and oncology secretaries are often in separate offices and they probably wanted to make sure that the appointments were in the diary.

In an ideal world, you would probably have had the follow-up appointment and then had an appointment made to see the oncologist if that was necessary. Often getting results back from pathologists can take longer than expected but it is difficult to know the specific details about your situation.

Try not to overthink what the oncology appointment means. Hopefully, when you see the doctor tomorrow all will become clear.

If at any stage you would like to ring and chat any of this through with one of the helpline nurses then you are very welcome to do so.

We are here Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and our helpline number is 0808 800 4040.

    All the best,

    Catherine
