worried about back pain.

Hello, I was diagnosed with stage 2b pancreatic head cancer in May 2022. I had whipple surgery in July 2022, followed by 6 months of

chemotherapy which I completed in March 2023. My last scan showed me to be cancer free (FEB 2022)

I have always been active and fit, and after about 8 weeks post chemo I started swimming, going to the gym and gardening. However,

About 4 weeks ago I started to feel a dull ache in my right mid back area, which seems to have got more constant, It has interrupted my sleep

several times, and is usually only present when I lay down. I have been very active the last two months Physically so am trying to convince my self

there is nothing to worry about. My appetite has got better post chemo, I have started to put weight back on, my energy levels are very good,

bowel and urine function as normal as could be considering whipple surgery.

I would be very happy if you could give me some advice.

Kind regards,

Teegee.

  • Hello Teegee and thanks for posting,

After cancer treatment, any new and persistent symptoms can understandably be a worry but back pain is common and can occur for a number of reasons. I think the best way to put your mind at rest about this is to talk to your doctors and get their input. They can make an assessment and decide what the cause is. Try and keep an open mind while you are waiting to talk to them.

I hope you can easily get in touch with someone from your team or your GP and that they can help.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Hello Julia,

Thank you for your reply, I have actually left a message for my Consultant Surgeons's speciality nurse.I called immediately after I posted on here.

I made an error in my post too. My last scan showing me to be cancer free was February 2023, not 2022.

    Kind regards,

    Teegee.
