Breast nodules... Dense breast tissue???

Hi,

I am 22 years old so I know I am too young to have breast cancer but off that one chance of it being it I know you should get checked out.

I had a lump 7 years ago which turned out to be a cyst so I know the process of a 2ww.

This time I found a lump and was not 100% it was a lump so I left it and then my family told me to see the GP to get it checked. At the appointment they told me I had multiple nodules and to be sent on a 2ww just incase.

The appointment came and I am not completely satisfied. I couldn't even understand what he was saying half the time. mind you I am slightly deaf but still. Looking down at me from the bed like I was an alien made me feel uncomfortable for the first starter.

Next he couldn't even feel the lump... even though I pointed and showed. Now mind you lying down it was hard to find but being sat up and being in a shower you can feel it straight away and it does not feel normal. But I'm not the DR here I know...

So ultrasound done and waited 2 hours to go back to be sat there for 1 minuet exactly for him to say you are too young check your breast regularly but you just have dense breasts.

I know I have dense breasts from the first appointment with the breast surgeons but this lump I can feel does not normally belong there and one is larger which is making it more denser but I am going out of my mind what to do am I just being a hypochondriact  <-- auto correct wouldn't help with the spelling apologies haha

hope you are all having a lovely day and this is me Sammy signing off....

  • Hi Sammy and thank you for posting.

I am so sorry that you are feeling like this, but I am glad that your ultrasound came back as clear. Ultrasound is the standard way of imaging breast tissue in younger women so it is reassuring that this test has been done and the results ok.

I think you should go back to your GP and discuss your concerns about the lump with them, they can decide if anything further should happen. Benign (non-cancerous) breast lumps aren't unusual in young women, read about them here.

If you feel you would like to talk to someone about your experience at the hospital appointment you may want to speak to the patient advice and liaison team (PALS) link here

Take care Sammy and if you want to talk anything through with us on the helpline the number is Freephone 0808 800 4040, and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
